Holy Week Services 2024
Maundy Thursday - 7:00 p.m. March 28th
No Wednesday evening service - March 27th (The Sheridan as usual)
Holy Eucharist and choral Tenebrae service.
Tenebrae is a meditation on Christ’s suffering. Readings trace the story of Christ’s passion, music portrays His pathos, and the power of silence and darkness suggests the drama of the coming day. As lights are extinguished, we ponder the depth of Christ’s suffering and death; and through the return of the small but persistent flame of the Christ candle at the conclusion of the service, we anticipate the joy of ultimate victory at EASTER.
Good Friday - 7:00 p.m. March 29th
Stations of the Cross. Songs, prayers and silent meditation on the Stations of the Cross are the hallmark of this service. We will not walk around the church, but contemplate the stations as they are projected onto a large screen.
Easter Vigil - 9:00 p.m. March 30th
Resuming where Maundy Thursday left off, we begin this service in darkness with only the Christ candle and our own candles giving light. The Exultet is sung: “This is the night, when all who believe in Christ are delivered from the gloom of sin and are restored to grace and holiness of life.” Then Easter bursts through with lights, bells, and alleluias! Music will be provided by Keven Keys, singing "The Trumpet Shall Sound" from Handel’s Messiah accompanied by trumpet and organ. We will all together renew our Baptismal vows, receive the Holy Eucharist and end the service singing “Christ the Lord is Risen Today!” Alleluia!
EASTER SUNDAY - 10:30 a.m. March 31st - (no Adult Education)
Our Easter celebration will complete our Lenten journey and our intense week-long immersion in the death of Christ for our salvation. Now we celebrate the RESURRECTION! “He is not here! Christ the Lord is Risen”
