...He gives it to someone we don't think deserves it.
Jonah 3:10-4:11 / Matthew 20:1-16
This Sunday we hear two stories that press the same nerve: Jonah, furious that God has spared Nineveh, and Jesus’ parable of the vineyard workers, angry that the last hired receive the same wage. Both ask whether we can bear a God who is merciful to people we have already decided do not deserve it. We love God’s mercy — until he gives it to someone else.
