Romans 8 contains both one of Christianity’s most comforting promises and one of its most debated passages. Exploring Paul’s “Golden Chain” alongside Article XVII of the Thirty-Nine Articles, we discover that predestination is not intended to produce anxiety or endless speculation, but what our Anglican tradition calls “sweet, pleasant, and unspeakable comfort”: the assurance that our salvation rests ultimately upon the faithfulness of God.
